What we do
What is Scottish Highland Dance?
Scottish Highland dance is a set of historical dances learned and danced by people all over the world. Considered more sport than an artistic expression, the dances are frequently performed competitively, however it is not uncommon to see dancers perform at festivals, parades, celebrations, and tattoos.
According to lore, kings and clan chiefs once used Highland Games as a means to select their best men at arms. In addition to other athletic endeavors at these games, the endurance and discipline required to perform Scottish dance allowed men to demonstrate their strength, stamina, and agility. Though once reserved only for men, currently girls, boys, women, and men all participate in Highland dance.
